Rob needs new music badly

I've been going through a huge electro kick for the last week and a half, but I'm starting to get sick of it and am looking for something new. Does anyone have any bands or, more importantly, any music blogs to recommend to me so that I can have a massive influx of killer new tunes?

Many thanks!

ALL RIGHT. I'm gonna lay the smack down. First off, you should be listening to the hyper-literate prog-rock song-stories of the Decemberists. They are one of the greatest bands ever.

NEXT, The Arcade Fire release their new album, Neon Bible, in March. I've heard 3 tracks off it so far, and live performances of most of the rest of the album now, and I must tell you that THIS, when it is released, is something you MUST hear. Often.

Third, you introduced me to Joanna Newsom, and although it took a long time, she has really grown on me. I still prefer her Milk-Eyed Mender album to the new lavishly produced and critically lauded Ys, but nevertheless, they are both completely brilliant listening experiences.
(Having said that, I must admit, I tend to prefer covers of her songs often more than her singing them. Sometimes the Lisa Simpson thing gets a little too much after a long while.) Still, her lyrics are amazing as well. They paint pictures in your mind.

Which brings me to the violin indie rock stylings of Final Fantasy. He is amazing. His album "He Poos Clouds" is terrific, and his live covers are brilliant, and often out of the ordinary.

Jolie Holland is my favorite songstress ever. Her deeply bluesy and oft-times folky songs are bottled bliss for my ears. I would fuck the soundwaves of her voice if I could, and her lyrics are absolutely amazing. Sometimes joyful, or introspective and even heart-breaking.

If you like kick ass 50s-60s style rock n roll fronted by a woman who can't even get across the border for her own concerts because of her serious drug problems then you'll love The Detroit Cobras. I had tickets to see them... but they couldn't get across the border for the show.

Folk-rock at it's best I'd recommend Peter & the Wolf.

If you're in the mood for drink n' swear, fuck-yourself-up rock from England, then get yourself onto the now broken-up The Libertines and their post-band-split side projects Dirty Pretty Things and Babyshambles.

Last one, I'll bet you'll LOVE the Panda Band.

Later.
